Red Hot Chili Peppers’ ‘The Getaway’ Album Debuts at No. 2 on Billboard 200 Chart

By Chad Childers June 27, 2016 12:03 PM

Red Hot Chili Peppers had a solid opening week, as The Getaway album debuted at No. 1 in multiple countries around the world, but settled for a No. 2 arrival on the Billboard 200 Album Chart despite selling the most traditional albums during the week.

The disc arrived at No. 1 on the Billboard’s Top Album Sales Chart with 108,000 traditional album sales, but finished No. 2 on the Billboard 200 with 118,000 equivalent album units, falling just shy of Drake‘s Views album, which spent its eighth consecutive week at No. 1. As has been Billboard’s new way of calculating the chart, album streams are factored in, which is what helped keep Drake ahead with a final tally of 124,000 equivalent units to the Chili Peppers’ 118,000 equivalent units. Drake actually only sold 33,000 traditional albums during the week, but was helped greatly by his streaming numbers.

The Getaway did debut at No. 1 in Australia, Belgium, Ireland, the Netherlands and New Zealand, and took the No. 2 spot in the United Kingdom and Germany during its opening week. The disc is the band’s seventh Top 10 album and the third to hit No. 2 on the chart.

The band worked on the effort with producer Danger Mouse and had Nigel Godrich mix the album. So far, the song has yielded the hit single “Dark Necessities” as well as the preview tracks “The Getaway” and “We Turn Red.” Look for Red Hot Chili Peppers supporting the album on tour at these locations.

Red Hot Chili Peppers Play ‘Carpool Karaoke’ on ‘The Late Late Show With James Corden’

By Graham Hartmann June 14, 2016 9:26 AM

Red Hot Chili Peppers guested on The Late Late Show with James Corden last night, playing a round of Carpool Karaoke while stopping midway to wrestle on a stranger’s lawn and stripping down in the car.The Chili Peppers sang fan favorites like “Give it Away,” “Californication” and “Can’t Stop” with Corden. Anthony Kiedis and Flea even debuted a deep track called “Heemi Lheemey” while riding with the talk show host. It’s got to be heard to be believed, but according to Flea, it was created when he and Kiedis were each 15 years old while hiking through the Sierra Nevada mountains and smoking large quantities of marijuana.

Part-way through Carpool Karaoke, an impromptu challenge between Kiedis and Corden was made to see which entertainer was the superior grappler. The boys stopped the car in front of a random stranger’s lawn and threw down right there.

After getting back into their ride, Corden commented on how odd it was to be hanging with the Chili Peppers while they were fully dressed. The sock-slinging quartet are pretty renowned for performing sans-shirt, among other things, so when it came time to sing “The Zephyr Song,” three of the car’s passengers got just a little closer to naked.
