Killswitch Engage’s Jesse Leach Unveils Reggae Cover of Mazzy Star Classic ‘Fade Into You’

Most people would not associate the hard driving, aggressive rock of Killswitch Engage with the lilty alter-pop of ’90s favorites Mazzy Star, but believe it or not there is a middle ground. Killswitch Engage frontman Jesse Leach has given the Mazzy Star classic ‘Fade Into You’ a fresh spin as part of his solo side project AliKen.

Leach adds a reggae vibe to the track and keeps the spirit of the song’s ethereal sound intact, all while giving it a new take. The vocalist also shot a video for the track, seen above, which finds him on a sunny day strolling along a lakeside and through a wooded area while singing the song. And once again, creating a feel, the clip is shot in a more hazy or blurred style giving it that dreamy quality.

The vocalist says of the track, “This song was originally done by a great band called Mazzy Star. This song is easily one of my favorites so I had to pay tribute as well as make it my own with this reggae version. I shot all the footage myself and edited it as well. The song was recorded in my bedroom with Garageband so it is Lo-Fi D.I.Y. I had such a fun time making this video out in a beautiful secluded spot I enjoy going to write and reflect. I hope you enjoy it! More to come!”

After getting some positive responses via his Facebook page, Leach added, “Big thanks to everyone for the love! Stoked people are digging on my solo videos and tracks! I’m proud of this one.” If you like what you hear, you can pick up the AliKen rendition of Mazzy Star’s ‘Fade Into You’ at Leach’s Soundcloud page.

Are you ready, Maggots?!? Slipknot have just announced that they’re bringing Knotfest back to the States for an extravaganza set to take place Oct. 24-26 in San Bernardino, Calif. The masked mavericks will headline two nights of the event, with a stellar lineup of acts filling out the rest of the the three-day bill.

The Knotfest announcement was made this evening from the stage at the San Bernardino kickoff of this year’s Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival.

Slipknot will headline the Saturday and Sunday bills of Knotfest, playing different sets each night. Meanwhile, acts like Danzig, Five Finger Death Punch, Volbeat, Killswitch Engage and Anthrax are among the other top-billed bands.

But it doesn’t end there. The Saturday and Sunday lineups will also feature Of Mice & Men, Black Label Society, Testament, In This Moment, Hatebreed, Hellyeah, the reunited Atreyu and much more. See the current list of bands below. The Friday night festivities will serve as a pre-party bash for fans who purchase VIP or camping packages.

Also, if it wasn’t clear that Slipknot are nearly done with their new album from Corey Taylor’s recent interview with ‘Loudwire NIghts’ host Full Metal Jackie, here’s some more weight to back it up. Fans who purchase tickets to Knotfest will receive a digital copy of the band’s new disc when it’s eventually released.

The San Bernardino event follows the announcement of Knotfest Japan, which will feature Korn, Limp Bizkit, Lamb of God, Five Finger Death Punch and more.

“Knotfest is a chance for Slipknot to bring the sensory-overload of a wild European festival — and now we’re coming for you, California,” says Slipknot percussionist Shawn “Clown” Crahan. “Playing two different sets over two nights at one location is a new experience in the history of this band. This year’s Knotfests in the U.S. and Japan are going to be on another level.”

Early bird discounted tickets, as well as camping packages, for Knotfest at the San Manuel Amphitheater & Campgrounds in San Bernardino go on sale Monday, July 7, at 8AM PT / 11AM ET, with VIP packages available starting Wednesday, July 9.
