Zakk Wylde Jams Black Sabbath on a Hello Kitty Mini-Guitar

Last year, we released a video of legendary drummer Mike Portnoy crushing rock and metal classics on a Hello Kitty drum kit. Ever since, we’ve been searching for a sequel worthy of succeeding Portnoy’s viral video, and today, we present you with Zakk Wylde rocking a Hello Kitty mini-guitar.

As of this posting, Mike Portnoy’s ‘Name That Tune’ Hello Kitty clip has amassed 2.5 million views, making it the most popular video on Loudwire’s YouTube channel. When we found out Hello Kitty made guitars for little kids, we had one iconic player in mind to bring greatness to the Hello Kitty franchise… Zakk Wylde.

Zakk was happy to rock the Hello Kitty mini acoustic and he had the artistic vision to take a different approach than Portnoy. Instead of playing a round of ‘Name That Tune,’ Wylde chose to transpose Tony Iommi’s immortal ’N.I.B.’ licks to the tiny axe.

Zakk, like his beloved New York Yankees, hit it out of the park with ’N.I.B.’, but we also added a little frosting to Zakk’s sonic cake. We conjured up an Ozzy Osbourne adaptation of the classic Hello Kitty mascot, which pops in at the most opportune times to add its aura to Zakk’s transcendental playing.

Zakk Wylde will release Book of Shadows II on April 8. To pre-order a copy, click here. Without any further ado, please enjoy Zakk Wylde performing Black Sabbath on a Hello Kitty guitar in the clip above!

Slipknot Announce 2014 U.S. Knotfest Featuring Danzig, Five Finger Death Punch, Volbeat + More

by Spencer Kaufman July 5, 2014 9:01 PM
Are you ready, Maggots?!? Slipknot have just announced that they’re bringing Knotfest back to the States for an extravaganza set to take place Oct. 24-26 in San Bernardino, Calif. The masked mavericks will headline two nights of the event, with a stellar lineup of acts filling out the rest of the the three-day bill.

The Knotfest announcement was made this evening from the stage at the San Bernardino kickoff of this year’s Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival.

Slipknot will headline the Saturday and Sunday bills of Knotfest, playing different sets each night. Meanwhile, acts like Danzig, Five Finger Death Punch, Volbeat, Killswitch Engage and Anthrax are among the other top-billed bands.

But it doesn’t end there. The Saturday and Sunday lineups will also feature Of Mice & Men, Black Label Society, Testament, In This Moment, Hatebreed, Hellyeah, the reunited Atreyu and much more. See the current list of bands below. The Friday night festivities will serve as a pre-party bash for fans who purchase VIP or camping packages.

Also, if it wasn’t clear that Slipknot are nearly done with their new album from Corey Taylor’s recent interview with ‘Loudwire NIghts’ host Full Metal Jackie, here’s some more weight to back it up. Fans who purchase tickets to Knotfest will receive a digital copy of the band’s new disc when it’s eventually released.

The San Bernardino event follows the announcement of Knotfest Japan, which will feature Korn, Limp Bizkit, Lamb of God, Five Finger Death Punch and more.

“Knotfest is a chance for Slipknot to bring the sensory-overload of a wild European festival — and now we’re coming for you, California,” says Slipknot percussionist Shawn “Clown” Crahan. “Playing two different sets over two nights at one location is a new experience in the history of this band. This year’s Knotfests in the U.S. and Japan are going to be on another level.”

Early bird discounted tickets, as well as camping packages, for Knotfest at the San Manuel Amphitheater & Campgrounds in San Bernardino go on sale Monday, July 7, at 8AM PT / 11AM ET, with VIP packages available starting Wednesday, July 9.
